Goal Alignment: Connecting Individual Effort to Company Direction

Goals that don't ladder up to company objectives are just busywork with a deadline. Alignment is what makes goal-setting worth the effort.

Individual goals that connect to nothing bigger are just personal to-do lists with an HR deadline attached. The point of goal-setting in an HCM is alignment, everyone's effort laddering up to where the company's actually trying to go, so people can see their work matters to something.

Cascade the objectives that matter

When company objectives cascade down, into team goals, into individual ones, people understand how their work connects to the whole. Configure the cascade for the objectives that genuinely drive the business, not every aspiration.

Allow bottom-up goals too

Not everything cascades. People have role-specific and development goals that don't ladder from the top and shouldn't be forced to. Allow both, aligned goals for direction, personal ones for growth.

Make the alignment visible

Someone should be able to see how their goal connects upward. That visibility is what turns 'because I was told to' into 'because it moves the thing we're all pushing'. Configure it to show the link.

Real scenario: a client had every employee setting goals in isolation, no connection to company direction, so goal-setting felt like an annual chore that changed nothing. We configured proper cascading from their strategic objectives, with the alignment visible to each person. Goals stopped being busywork because people could see they mattered. Alignment is what makes the effort worthwhile.
